Indiana State Parks offers several incredible in-park lodging options. One of those is Clifty Inn at Clifty Falls State Park. Located near Madison, Indiana, Clifty Inn is a perfect option for a beautiful stay while visiting the state park and surrounding area.

In this post you’ll experience what it’s like to stay at Clifty Inn, and learn important details including its location, amenities, prices, and whether this is the lodging option for you.

While my stay at Clifty Inn was graciously hosted by Visit Madison, Inc., I was not paid to write this post and all opinions and words are my own.

Why Stay at the Clifty Inn?

For my friends who love hiking, Clifty Inn is located inside a state park – need I say more?! You have immediate access to trails, plus all of the other things to do at Clifty Falls State Park

You still need an Indiana State Park Pass even if you are staying at Clifty Inn – it is not included in your reservation. I went to buy a day pass at check-in, however the front desk staff only had annual passes available and said that rangers wouldn’t check for stickers until around March. I had no issues during my one-night stay, but I couldn’t verify this online.

Located just 45 minutes from Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana (SoIN)
, the Clifty Inn also provides a beautiful spot to escape the city while still being close to Historic Downtown Madison, Indiana.

Below are some of the other compelling reasons to book a stay at Clifty Inn.

Rooms & Suites with a View

I spent a cold and snowy night in late November at Clifty Inn, and it couldn’t have been more magical. I stayed in a corner Riverview Room (room 310) which featured two queen beds, a microwave, mini-fridge, Juliet balcony, and a STUNNING view of the Ohio River and surrounding woods.

The room featured rustic decor and provided a warm and cozy feel – perfect for a snowy night. Floor to ceiling windows added to the room experience, and a comfy chair next to the window was perfect for reading on my Kindle while enjoying incredible views.

In addition to the Riverview Room, guests can reserve a Riverview Suite or a Parkside Room/Suite. The suites provide a private bedroom, sleeper sofa, and whirlpool tub, which are great for accommodating larger families.

Rooms start at around $140 USD during the winter months, but prices peak during the summer and falls months. Clifty Inn allows dogs and cats up to 75 pounds in certain rooms for a $25 per night fee.

Free Wi-Fi

I was pleasantly surprised that the free Wi-Fi worked great throughout the property. I wasn’t sure how the connection would be inside of the state park, but I had no problem logging in and getting work done from my hotel room bed.

The Falls Restaurant

Guests love the on-site restaurant at Clifty Inn – The Falls Restaurant. Generally open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you’ll find a large menu offering or sometimes a buffet-style meal.

The restaurant hours can change seasonally, so I recommend calling before heading down to the restaurant or driving to the park for a meal.

For example, the restaurant was open for breakfast and dinner (not lunch) during my stay. You do not need to be a guest of the inn to enjoy the restaurant.

Inn Lounges

The lounges located throughout the property are a highlight of any stay. There’s a cozy nook located right off the entrance complete with a full bookshelf, couches, and a fireplace. It’s the perfect spot to grab your favorite book or gather with your travel mates for conversation.

Several additional spots to relax and visit with loved ones are located throughout the halls of the inn. There’s ample space to enjoy a cup of coffee just outside the restaurant and in the walkways between the main building and the rooms.

I especially enjoyed the large sunroom overlooking the Ohio River and the outdoor seating surrounding the fire pit.

Pools & Hot Tub

Clifty Inn offers a year-round indoor pool for hotel guests, while the state park has an olympic-sized pool open seasonally. The inn also has a hot tub available for guests 18 and older.

Gift Shop

There is a large gift shop in the lobby where you can purchase items like toothpaste and deodorant, along with souvenirs from your trip.

Overall Thoughts

I LOVED my stay at Clifty Inn. The grounds are stunning, rooms quaint, and lounges cozy. I really enjoyed the simple, rustic feel of the inn. However, if you are looking for a more luxurious stay, including housekeeping and other typical hotel amenities, you may want to choose a different lodging option.
